A crucial part of translating basic science to practice is to improve the public appreciation of and political impetus for preserving natural environments. Toward this goal, our lab group worked on a research project by bringing together natural and social scientists with educators to evaluate the qualities of educational outreach that result in improved learning outcomes and the spatial distribution of informal STEM learning opportunities. We envision expanding this work to include informal education at museums and integrating research on conservation-focused educational outreach learning outcomes.
